Sonntag Pictures is an internationally acclaimed, Copenhagen-based film production company.
With a strong passion for storytelling, Sonntag Pictures focuses on films that combine a visionary artistic perspective with global ambition—often with a drive to create social impact.

Founded in 2012, Sonntag Pictures is led by award-winning producer Sara Stockmann.

Several of her films have been recognized at Cannes' Semaine de la Critique, Tribeca Film Festival, IDFA, and the Emmys.

Our passion & values

Sonntag Pictures is a small production house with a great passion for storytelling.

We love the art of documentary films and believe it holds up a mirror to the world and lets us reflect on structures and stories we don’t have access to through mainstream media.

We see director-driven documentary films as an art form which challenges our sense of reality, our connectedness to the world and who we are as human beings.

The company was founded in 2012 by Sara Stockmann with a personal wish to create a creative space for artists and film talents who wanted to be ambitious but not sacrifice a sustainable life in a very competitive industry.

Since the beginning, we have been proud of housing some of the most talented film directors who have pushed the boundaries of what documentary film language is.

So being recognised for our work and our efforts to create a healthy and supportive working environment, where people can thrive while maintaining a sustainable work-life balance, makes us very grateful. In 2024, Sara was honored with both The Nordic Producer Award by the Board of Nordisk Panorama and the prestigious IB Award, presented by the Danish Film Directors Association to courageous, innovative, and rebellious Danish film producers. In 2019, founder Sara Stockmann was shortlisted for the Danish Sigtil-Prisen, which highlights leaders in the film and TV industry working to create a healthy working environment, especially for her work with securing equality for women in the industry.

At Sonntag, we love to co-produce with international partners and be inspired by how film talents and producers practice their work in other cultures and industries different from the Danish, and have been blessed with collaborations with filmmakers in South Korea, the US, Sweden, Norway, Ukraine, France and Algeria.

We have a special passion for working with new talents and are looking forward to completing two new first-time directors’ feature documentaries in 2026 and 2027, one being made in collaboration with an Ukranian film team.  

In 2025, we completed a 6-year collaboration with our South Korean partners, Seesaw Pictures, on our first fictional narrative feature, Hana Korea. The collaboration has expanded our sense of storytelling beyond Europe and has made us even more curious about broadening our wish to collaborate with partners in other regions of the world.
